Holy fucking shit, I've just had a Lakoff moment. The clouds have parted and I have glimpsed into the heart of the beast to grasp the truth behind uber-right wingers hatred of the gays
. Their problem? You buttfuckers (and rugmunchers) out there aren't breeding…
But
you say gentle reader, we've heard this ridiculous argument before in the all the hullabaloo about DOMA, stupid state amendments barring homosexual marriage, sanctity of the institution, yakkedy-schmackedyblahblahblah…
and you would be most correct in that assessment. It's an argument that's always seemed rather ludicrous in light of the rapidly expanding global population.
That's the twist though you see, the warped lens that you have to view this shit through for it to make any semblance of sense; paranoid, xenophobic crazy sense, but a sort of sense nonetheless. It's a rapidly expanding global population, and we can't have that, nosiree. All you gays in America are too busy having non-reproductive sex out there to partake of your God given duty to spawn more honest, native born (white) Americans to act as foot soldiers to drive back the hoards of filthy, islamofascist brown skinned people already swarming across the borders of the EU in an unstoppable tide of heathen flesh.
Think I'm kidding?
We have written off Britain to the Muslims,he says.Come to America.
That is the finishing quote in an article by Johann Hari in which he tags along on a cruise for raving, aging neo-cons thrown by the magazine National Review. The relevant section is about two-thirds of the way into section four of the article where he begins to describe the discussion of Europe being overrun by Muslims because (t)he ‘European races’ i.e., white people—‘are too self-absorbed to breed…’
.
So don't you see? (Cranky old rich white politically empowered) Neo-cons don't hate the gays
(just) because they find their sexual predilections disgusting, it's because homosexuals' refusal to have (white, non-Muslim) children is an just another way of letting the terrorists win…
Trust me, after an hour or so reading various politically leaning ramblings while trying to research some more facts about the oh so wonderful sounding health insurance reform plan of that paragon of the people Kenneth J. Blackwell, I'm about ready to have a tasting party for the sumptuous drinks reviewed above. A party of one as it were...
Fuckity fuck fuck fuck fuck fucking fuck you fucking fuckholes...
You ignorant fucking shit-brained scared-of-your-own-fucking-shadow brainless simpering jackapes—congratulations for absolutely destroying the idea that we might rely on an informed fucking populace. That would require you engage that small lump of useless putty between your fucking ears for a second for something other than eating and fucking.
Fuck You
You inbred drooling half-wit can't-keep-your-dick-outta-other-folk's-business mongloid pigfuckers—congratulations for fucking over everyone who doesn't agree with your magical pretend buddy. Way to give it to us all in the ass-can, gay and straight. Let me spell this out for you you pea-brained sycophants for a bunch of dead Middle Eastern and Italian guys–there is no fucking God. Never has been, never was, and the sooner the human race can wean itself of the teet of this ridiculous mystical fallacy and start realizing the potential of our goddam brains instead of yelling at what others do to/with their genitals, the better.
Fuck You

Well now, that wasn't too bad all things considering. Dan and I walked up to the Lutheran church which is the polling location for the apartment we live in through a slight sprinkle, but nothing major. It took us about an hour—slightly longer, but not by much—to wait in line, then about another 15 minutes to do the actual deed.
Speaking of doing the deed, it looks like I won't be able to keep the first part of the American Hero Votergasm pledge due to lack of available options and a rather lackluster party schedule for the Columbus area. Kind of odd given the supposed focus on this being a swing
state this year. Oh well, I'll just have to do my best to fufill the last half then—not that that should be too difficult.

I just received the wierdest fucking phone call I've answered in, oh, the past week at least. Ohio's Secretary of State Ken Blackwell called to make sure I was voting, and that I knew where the proper precinct was for me to go and perform my civic duty. Wow, what a guy that Ken Blackwell, to be so concerned that he'd call me to make sure my vote counted this year...
Except of course it wasn't Ken Blackwell, but Robo-Ken Blackwell sending me an automated 30 second voter poll
down my telephone line. How much fucking cash did that cost I'm wondering Ken? What's the matter, didn't feel all the press concerning your little directive on provisional ballots got the point across?

Just a quick one at the moment, but I figured this was important enough to link to:
Voters Information Guide for the 2004 US ElectionAnd if there's any of you punk monkeys out there reading this who haven't yet registered, don't let me catch you. I'm gonna check tomorrow to see if I have to register again since I moved again, just to be sure. October 4th is the deadline here in Ohio—that's Monday for those of you not paying attention. If I have somehow managed to get readers from out of state at this point, go check out Halley's list of deadlines for all the remaining states in the union (the girl has some time on her hands methinks).
I stopped in at the library today to drop off some overdue CDs and to update the address on my voter registration. I found out they have some pretty good links on their site. That hyperlink goes to a page that describes the candidates and issues that will be voted on this November. Yes, we all know that the presidential election is important, but that doesn't mean you can all be slackards and not know what else your voting on. Become an informed electorate dammit...<handy>Read a book!</handy>.
They also have a link there to the Franklin County Board of Elections, which really has a much better site than I would have hoped for. You can search to see if and where you are registered, and learn everything you need to know to correct the situation if you are not currently registered to vote at your current address. It's not hard folks—hell, you can do it online— but time is running out.
And remember, every time someone forgets to register, God strangles a masturbating kitten. Or something like that...

Maybe it's from playing too much Angband, where I could Identify the Phial of Galadriel without even casting the damn spell. Maybe it's just due to the fact that Cate Blanchett ruled as Galadriel—although given my druthers I think I'd still rather have some sweet sweet hobbit lovin'.
What the hell am I babbling about you ask? Linkhop with me, if you will.
In my marathon catching up session at the coffee house—yes, I'm still there—I headed over to Doc Searl's page to see what he'd been writing about recently. While there I came across the link he had to a gentleman by the name of Jerry Michalski and his suggestions to the Democratic Party titled To the Democrats: Light, Memory and Discourse. I got to the fourth point under Light
, when I started hearing Cate Blanchett in my head describing the Star of Elendil.
Like I said, a big damn geek. Gotta admit, that'd be kinda a cool campaign poster though, no? A little remix of Return of the King movie posters featuring Kerry and Edwards?
Hell, it might finally make up my mind to vote Kerry for some reason other than just anyone but Bush
.

I didn't find the javascript lessons over at W3Schools particularly educational, so I wandered a bit, and found my new vocabulary word of the day thanks to Doc Searls. Those of you who know me will find the definitions of jeremiad rather fitting. I find it amusing to learn that word on a day where I read an interview with Tom Tomorrow, who ends the interview with these quotes:
Salon:Have you ever written positive cartoons?
TT:Oh, come on.
Salon:I don't know. Some moment when you were overcome by a burst of cheerfulness?
TT:It is not a frequent occurrence. But I wouldn't do what I do if there wasn't an inherent optimism there. It's an optimism tinged with bitterness and frustration but if I didn't believe that things can get better then I would go live in some remote farmhouse somewhere and ignore the world entirely.
Amen. Speaking of which, maybe I should see if I can dig up a Bible and go read Jeremiah, find out what's in there that spawned the word initially. On a vaguely related note, this reminded me of research I had done in the past on the meanings of names, particularly as it applied to MY name. I'm not entirely convinced of the etymological veracity of this information anymore, but from what I recall my name can basically be understood to mean Ruler appointed by God. I'm not entirely sure that's a crowd I would want to be a part of these days, given some of the other folks who seem to think that's the case. Besides, have you seen how many friggin' Jeremy King's are running around out there? Even though I'm sure I'm better armed than most of the others, I somehow doubt I would gain superpowers if I were the last man standing, so confrontation would be rather pointless. Maybe we all just need to band together and take over instead....yeah,that's the ticket.
